The Energy Shield arm, known in-game as the Power Shield, is produced by Rimtech and can significantly reduce the damage caused by an enemies energy based weapon, but doesn't fare as well against kinetic weaponry.
The Energy Shield is designed for defensive purposes, particularly against Neuropa. It is mostly comparable to Neuropa's K-Shield, which grants similar defensive capabilities from kinetic attacks as opposed to energy. There is also a resemblance in Mil-Agro's Power Shield legs.
